West Valley City has hired its new police chief.
Utah's second-largest city will put the embattled department into the hands of Lee Russo, a former police chief in Kentucky.
Russo was chosen from among 36 applicants, following a search that began in May.
The West Valley department has been in turmoil, since the fatal shooting of an unarmed 21-year-old woman, last November.
The incident sparked an internal investigation, which led to the disbanding of the department's neighborhood narcotics unit.
