Utah Lawmakers Meet With Gay Rights Advocates

LOTS OF EMOTIONAL TEARS -- BUT NO REAL CHANGES -- AS HUNDREDS OF UTAH'S GAYS AND LESBIANS MET WEDNESDAY NIGHT, WITH STATE LAWMAKERS.

THE LGBT COMMUNITY WANTS THE LEGISLATURE TO DEBATE A BILL, THAT WOULD PROTECT GAYS AGAINST HOUSING AND EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION.

LAWMAKERS HAVE TABLED THAT, AS THEY AWAIT A RULING ON GAY MARRIAGE IN UTAH.

BUT SOME PEOPLE AT THE MEETING EXPRESSED FEAR, INACTION WILL FORCE PEOPLE TO LEAVE UTAH.

LAWMAKERS SAID NOTHING AT THE MEETING, ABOUT REOPENING DEBATE OVER THE GAY DISCRIMINATION BILL.

BUT THEY DID SAY THE CAPITOL HILL GATHERING HELPED THEM TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGES UTAH'S SAME SEX COUPLES FACE.
