Utah Homelessness Dropping

A NEW REPORT SAYS, HOMELESSNESS IN OUR STATE FELL 10 PERCENT LAST YEAR.

BUT IT ALSO SHOWS AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE DEFINED AS "CHRONICALLY HOMELESS."

OFFICIALS SAY, 150 PEOPLE -- IN SALT LAKE COUNTY -- WERE ADDED TO THAT LIST, IN THE ANNUAL SURVEY... REQUIRED BY THE U-S DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT.

THE CHRONICALLY HOMELESS ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN WITHOUT SHELTER AT LEAST THREE TIMES, IN FOUR YEARS.

DESPITE THE ONE YEAR INCREASE THOUGH, OFFICIALS SAY CHRONIC HOMELESSNESS HAS DROPPED -- 72 PERCENT, STATEWIDE -- SINCE 2005.
