Southern Utah Elected Officials Petition Governor to Reopen National Parks

COUNTY GOVERNMENTS -- ACROSS SOUTHERN UTAH -- ARE MOVING TO CONDEMN THE SHUTDOWN OF NATIONAL PARKS, BY DECLARING AN OFFICIAL EMERGENCY.

ELECTED OFFICIALS -- IN SIX SOUTHERN UTAH COUNTIES -- ARE FILING SEPARATE RESOLUTIONS, DECLARING A STATE OF EMERGENCY.

IRON COUNTY COMMISSIONER DAVE MILLER CALLS THE SHUTDOWN OF NATIONAL PARKS A POLITICAL STUNT AND ABUSE OF POWER.

HE RAISES THE POSSIBILITY, UTAH OR ARIZONA COULD TAKE OVER THE NATIONAL PARKS, DUE TO MISMANAGEMENT.

THE PARKS CLOSED A WEEK AGO, AS PART OF THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN.

THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE HAS SAID IT IS REVIEWING THE COUNTY PROPOSALS.
