South Jordan Will Remain in the Jordan School District...For Now

AFTER MONTHS OF DEBATE -- AND THE COMPLETION OF A FEASIBILITY STUDY -- THE SOUTH JORDAN CITY COUNCIL, WEDNESDAY NIGHT, VOTED NOT TO SPLIT THE CITY'S CHILDREN FROM THE BELEAGERED JORDAN SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THE STUDY FOUND, SUCH A MOVE WOULD HIKE TAXES -- BY AS MUCH AS 6-PERCENT -- WHILE REDUCING THE PER-PUPIL SPENDING FOR KIDS.

BUT SOMEĀ SOUTH JORDAN RESIDENTS -- AT THE MEETING --Ā FELT THE QUESTION SHOULD STILL GO ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT.

INSTEAD, THE SOUTH JORDAN CITY COUNCIL VOTED TO ENTER AN INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT -- WITH THE DISTRICT -- TO ALLOW MORE COMMUNITY INPUT.

THEY THEN PLAN TO REASSESS THE SITUATION, IN A YEAR.
