Parleys Canyon Oil Spill Threatens to Enter Water Supply

A LARGE OIL SPILL -- ON WESTBOUND I-80 IN PARLEYS CANYON, EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING -- HAD HEALTH OFFICIALS SCRAMBLING, TO TRY TO STOP UP TO 4500 GALLONS OF CRUDE FROM GETTING INTO WATER SUPPLIES.

THE UTAH HIGHWAY PATROL REPORTED, THE SPILL WAS COMING FROM A CRUDE OIL TANKER TRAILER, THAT WAS KNOCKED ON ITS SIDE, WHEN IT WAS REAR-ENDED BY ANOTHER SEMI-TRUCK.

CLEAN-UP WAS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE MOST OF THE DAY, RESTRICTING THE WESTBOUND FREEWAY -- NEAR THE LAMBS CANYON EXIT -- TO JUST ONE LANE.

EASTBOUND TRAFFIC THROUGH THE CANYON WASS NOT BEING AFFECTED.

THE TRUCK DRIVERS WERE HOSPITALIZED, WITH MINOR INJURIES.

EXCESSIVE SPEED WAS BELIEVED RESPONSIBLE FOR THE INCIDENT.
