One Suspect Killed, Two Police Officers Wounded, in Salt Lake Shootout

SALT LAKE POLICE CHIEF CHRIS BURBANK SAYS, HIS TWO WOUNDED OFFICERS -- SHOT DURING A DOWNTOWN TRAFFIC STOP, EARLY FRIDAY MORNING -- ARE BOTH ALERT AND ON THE MEND.

THE CHIEF VISITED THEM AT THE HOSPITAL, AND SAYS THE OFFICER -- SHOT IN THE ARM -- SHOULD BE RELEASED TODAY... WHILE THE OFFICER WHO WAS HIT IN THE THIGH, WILL LIKELY HAVE TO REMAIN OVERNIGHT.

AFTER THEY WERE SHOT, AT LEAST ONE OF THEM RETURNED FIRE, KILLING THE PASSENGER OF A VEHICLE THEY HAD STOPPED.

THE DRIVER OF THE JEEP WAS STILL BEING QUESTIONED, FRIDAY AFTERNOON.

THE SHOOTING OCCURRED JUST AFTER 2 FRIDAY MORNING, NEAR 3RD SOUTH AND WEST TEMPLE.

POLICE SAY THE PASSENGER HAD JUST BEEN ORDERED TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE, WHEN HE OPENED FIRE.

AUTHORITIES AREN'T YET RELEASING THE NAMES OF ANY OF THE FOUR PEOPLE WHO WERE AT THE SCENE.
