Crandall Canyon Mine Disaster Inspires University of Utah Research

UNIVERSITY OF UTAH RESEARCHERS ARE INVESTIGATING SEISMIC RECORDS, WHICH COULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO SAFER COAL MINING PRACTICES, IN OUR STATE.

RESEARCHERS BEGAN REVIEWING THE EARTHQUAKE INFORMATION, SHORTLY AFTER THE FATAL CRANDALL CANYON MINE COLLAPSE, IN 2007.

U-OF-U RESEARCHERS HAVE FOUND A PATTERN, SHOWING SEISMIC ACTIVITY BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER THE MINE DISASTER, IN EMERY COUNTY.

THEY WILL PRESENT THEIR FINDINGS -- TO A PROFESSIONAL RESEARCH JOURNAL -- THIS WINTER.
