First we had the driest June on record, in the Salt Lake Valley.
Then came a half-inch of rain, in the pre-dawn hours of the Independence Day Holiday. That's a 4th of July record.
And next came several Little Cottonwood Canyon mud and rock slides, which forced the road to be closed Friday morning.
Authorities were hoping to reopen the road, possibly as early as 1:00 PM, Friday afternoon.
Additional slides came down in Millcreek and Big Cottonwood Canyons, which did require clean-up -- but did not force road closures.
